Beekeeping in Lancaster County, Pa
At Chestnut Ridge Honey, we have been raising bees for over 10 years, drawing from the influence of Chad's grandfather and his work as a beekeeper in the 1930's. Chad refers to his meticulous notes and drawings about his experiences in caring for the bees nearly a century ago. We strive to care for our bees in the same manner, with attention to detail and a conscientiousness that has allowed our apiary to grow.

As you can see, our beehives are located in a wooded area, surrounded by Lancaster county farms, fields and trees which allow our bees to collect the pollen that makes our delicious raw, wildflower honey. Our bees are active from April-May until September-October depending on the weather. We have not had to purchase bees for many years as our bees naturally reproduce and continue to grow their population, allowing us to start new hives.
Raising bees takes patience but the reward is great. We hope to pass the tradition to our own children one day. We utilize both the honey our bees produce, and the beeswax the bees create to protect their precious honeycomb. The beeswax is found in our wellness and skincare blends, and our honey is sold raw. Beeswax is not just wonderful for you skin, it is becoming increasingly popular in candles due to its clean burning features.
